Get to know our history, our veterinarians, and our staff
The Wyalusing Pet Clinic was established by Dr. Joan Hudyncia in the spring of 1998. The Pet Clinic was founded on the principle of high quality, family-oriented veterinary care already put in place by Dr. Hudyncia at our sister facility, Towanda Creek Animal Hospital. As Towanda Creek Animal Hospital continued to grow in western Bradford County, so did the need for a small animal veterinary hospital further east, between Towanda and Meshoppen. Dr. Hudyncia found the opportunity to expand when, in 1997, she purchased what was formerly a feed and tack shop outside the Wyalusing borough. She was immediately attracted to the property by the surrounding beauty and serenity of that little piece of mountain, overlooking the Susquehanna as it curved outside Wyalusing township. Once zoning was approved, Dr. Hudyncia swiftly put her husband put to work, and within a few short months, the old building had been renovated into the Wyalusing Pet Clinic.
Although the Pet Clinic started out as a small satellite hospital, we have grown to be able to provide full-service medical, surgical, and preventative veterinary care. Our business now has four veterinarians and a team of seventeen support staff, some of whom rotate between the two hospitals. We provide evening hours at both hospitals for the convenience of our late working families. Although we are not open 24 hours, we are on call to provide emergency consultation and care, when possible. If your pet requires diagnostics or treatment beyond what we can provide, we will refer you and your pet to the nearest specialty or emergency facility.
LORI SMITH, DVM
Dr. Lori Smith graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She was working as a small animal practitioner in Poquoson, Virginia when she met her husband Christopher. It just so happened that Chris had his family roots in Bradford County, and in June of 2003 Dr. Lori and Christopher moved to the Towanda area, where Dr. Lori joined the practice and Christopher began a commercial painting business. Dr. Lori and Chris reside in Wyalusing with their daughter Shayna and son Chris, who are both in elementary school. The rest of the family includes their chocolate lab Roscoe, pit bull Delilah, indoor cats Lucy, Choi Choi, and Kitty Katniss, and porch kitties Fraidy, Peter Tosh, and Sissy.
Dr. Lori loves pets and their owners. She most enjoys the “family practice” aspect of veterinary medicine, and has a passion for educating pet owners and helping them thoroughly understand their pets’ health care. Dr. Lori purchased both the Towanda Creek Animal Hospital and Wyalusing Pet Clinic in early 2011. She continues to uphold the tradition of compassion and caring that has defined the hospitals since they were founded. Dr. Lori feels very fortunate to have inherited a fantastic team of pet caregivers and a wonderful clientele of loving pet owners!
joan hudyncia, dvm
Dr. Joan Hudyncia founded the Towanda Creek Animal Hospital in 1991 and the Wyalusing Pet Clinic in 1998. She is a 1984 graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. For six years she practiced large and small animal general medicine in Indiana, PA. When the opportunity arose to move north, Dr. Hudyncia, her husband Mike, and her first daughter Aurora relocated to Towanda, Pennsylvania to be closer to their family. Dr. Francis Sullivan was the only small animal veterinarian back then; he gave Dr. Hudyncia the go-ahead to start her own practice (Dr. Sullivan was 75 years old at the time, and did not really need any 'help'!). It looked like the Hudyncias had found an ideal place to set up a new life.
Dr. Hudyncia shares her home with her husband Mike, her Australian Shepherd Bindie, Jack Russell Flossie; and four cats Scout, PG, Big, and Diesel. She is skilled in the fiber arts, including weaving, spinning, and knitting, and she even raises registered Shetland sheep, alpacas, and goats to support her hobby. Dr. Hudyncia and Mike also love to spend time with their grown daughters Anya, Aurie and son-in-law, and granddaughter Sawyer.
Dr. Hudyncia is an indispensable member of the community. She has set the standard of compassionate, caring veterinary medicine that we continue to uphold at both hospitals to this day. Dr. Hudyncia has been working on trying to retire for several years now, but she has since become certified in veterinary acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition. She has continued to share her extensive experience by her willingness to help as the need arises, and by being the only local veterinarian certified in complementary medicine.
Kimberly Robinson, Office manager, LVT
Kim started at Towanda Creek Animal Hospital in 1997, as a kennel assistant right out of high school. She received her degree as a licensed veterinary technician from Johnson College in 1999, and worked at both of our hospitals in that capacity for 17 years. In 2016, she became our office manager at the Wyalusing Pet Clinic. In addition to her varied work responsibilities, she has a busy home life, helping her husband Jeremy run their hauling business, and raising their four children Kyle, Sawyer, Kiera, and Saylor. Rounding out her family is their boxer Chopper, American bulldog Rogue, cats Uno and Oreo, as well as horses and guinea pigs. In her current position, Kim is able to help our clients and patients from multiple perspectives, and we are very lucky to have her as a part of our team!
Jessica began working with us in June of 2016. Jessica brings with her 10 years of customer service experience, along with experience as a veterinary receptionist and assistant at another local hospital. She works mainly at our Wyalusing office, as both a customer care representative and a veterinary assistant, but you will also find her at our Towanda office filling in with customer care. Jessica's pet family includes her Bernese Mountain dog Claymore, cats Ollie and Jak, her gecko Joanna, and many fish.
When Mark began working with us at the Pet Clinic in the fall of 2016 he was already a well-liked and familiar face in our community, having worked in local retail. We are happy to have his positive outlook and cheerful nature at the front desk as our customer care representative. Mark has two Chihuahuas, Snowball and Kiwa, and 14 cats in his family of pets.
Elaine is a veterinary assistant, and has been working at Wyalusing Pet Clinic since 2003. Although Elaine is a “cat lady” at heart, she truly enjoys every patient she sees during her work day. She also enjoys the opportunity to always learn something new. Elaine and her husband have 14 cats and two horses that occupy much of Elaine’s free time. She also loves horseback riding and the beach. Although Elaine currently only works with us once a week, she knows our clients and our pets well, and we are privileged to have her!
Morgan began working with us as an assistant at the Pet Clinic in the summer of 2016. She began her journey in the veterinary field with her aunt Kim (our office manager) who would allow her to shadow and observe technician duties. Although Morgan shares our commitment to building relationships with our clients and their pets, she will ultimately be attending nursing school. Morgan's family of pets includes 3 cats, her beagle, and 4 horses.
